If you know me, you know that I’m a Summer girl. And a Christmas girl. But nothing really in between. For the last few years, I’ve completely, absolutely DREADED Fall. Other than college football and my annual apple fritter indulgence, I’ve never been into the whole “chunky sweater, cooler weather, basic girl” kind of thing. I’ve always felt like the idea of Fall is better than the real deal thing. Leaves die, it becomes colder, and it’s dark by 4pm… no thank you. This year though, I want to embrace the season more. I want to slow down on the weekends, watch football, and cozy up with my husband (and a good scented candle). I blame the whole I’m pregnant and due in January thing. The season of Fall means I’m one season closer to meeting my sweet baby.
Another reason I really don’t care for Fall? I’m not into the decor, colors, trends, etc. (Please don’t hate me!) I’m a neutral-tone, pastel loving, clean lines kind of girl; and with Fall comes more colors, and more “stuff”. I think when others decorate for Fall, there’s a sense of “RUSTIC” that immediately comes out, and that is NOT my vibe.
For my Fall Inspo Board, I wanted to challenge myself, but also prove to others that Fall decor, or in this case weddings, doesn’t have to be rustic! Classic elegance is possible… even if you’re getting married in the middle of October or November.
Trends for this season:
- I am LOVING all the deep, rich, jewel tones that are appearing in weddings for the second half of the year. Though a traditional Fall color palette includes oranges, yellows, and rust; I say switch it up with vibrant magenta, emeralds, and even hunter green! Mixing in deep natural woods will bring in subtle touches of the season, without being too “rustic”. (Are you sick of me using that term yet?!)
- As much as I love the emeralds and hunters, I also realize that most brides may naturally gravitate towards warm colors as well. Along side of your rust oranges, cayenne reds, and mustard yellows, try accenting with touches of pale blushes and nudes. It will balance out the boldness and still make your wedding atmosphere soft and airy.
- While researching “Fall Weddings” on Pinterest, one trend I can absolutely get behind is TEXTURE! Play with textures on your cake, on your invitations, or even your attire. Velvets are perfect for those crisper evenings, and give off that edgy/cool vibe.
- Dark masculine wood detail mixed with as many soft candles as you can find; please and thank you!
If you’re like me and naturally don’t love a lot of color, stick with your “clean vibe” and just add touches of subtle color throughout… (Navy is ALWAYS in, or touches of gold that will mimic more mustard yellow). If you’re adventurous (a wedding planners dream), then go bold with jewel tones and heavy textures. It will scream FALL! Stay true to yourself no matter what so you don’t have regrets, and remember… don’t be afraid to break the trend. Who says Fall HAS to be rustic?! XOXO,
